Born in Richmond, Virginia Stan Winston was a child really into art, puppetry, and horror films. After graduating from University of Virginia, Charlottesville Stan moved to Southern California to pursue an acting career but instead fell in love with special effects make-up. After completing an apprenticeship at Disney Stan went on to freelance as a special-effects make-up artist.

After landing many gigs he first became recognized for "Roots" the television mini-series about slavery in America. After this his most prominent credit to that date became "Wiz" a modern retelling of Baum's "The Wizard of Oz" starring Diana Ross & Michael Jackson.

He would go on to assist Rob Bottin on John Carpenter's remake of "The Thing" and finally rise to cult-fame as the creator of The Terminator in James Cameron's 1984 sci-fi thriller "The Terminator." This was soon followed by his other most recognized creation in John McTiernan's "Predator" where he worked with long time friend and collaborator Arnold Schwarzenegger. A few years later Stan Winston rose to world-wide fame after completing work on films such as "Terminator 2: Judgement Day" and "Jurassic Park."

Stan delved into toys and video games in the late 90's and 2000's. After a little known battle with multiple myeloma Stan Winston succumbed to the disease on June 15th 2008.
